The following are excerpts from an email interview with Lee from December 18 to January 2.
1.Please introduce yourself to the readers.
Hi, my name is Daniela Lee, and I’m an actor and visual storyteller drawn to emotionally resonant, character-driven work. My practice lives at the intersection of film, culture, and inner life—stories that explore identity, resilience, and quiet transformations that shape who we become. Whether through acting or visual storytelling, I’m interested in creating work that feels honest, cinematic, and deeply human.

2.Your work spans acting and visual storytelling across different cultural spaces. How would you describe your creative journey so far, and what initially drew you to storytelling as a form of expression?
My creative journey began from a place of observation and solitude. Growing up, I spent a lot of time alone and didn’t come from a household where communication or emotional expression was openly modeled. Movies and Korean dramas became my window into the world—they taught me about relationships, values, nuances, and emotional language. More importantly, they made me feel seen at a time when I didn’t have many other sources of validation or understanding. Storytelling became a mirror and a companion. Over time, I realized I didn’t want to just consume stories—I wanted to become a part of them. Acting felt like a way to offer that same sense of recognition and connection to others, to create moments where someone feels understood without needing words.

3.Has your cultural background and experiences influenced the way you see stories, characters and creative expression?
Absolutely. Being shaped by multiple cultural influences has given me a sensitivity to subtext, restraint, and emotional depth. I’m especially drawn to stories where what’s left unsaid matters just as much as what’s spoken. My background has taught me that my identity is layered and that characters don’t need to be loud to be powerful. I’m interested in portraying people who are complex, contradictory, and evolving because that’s how real life feels. Cultural nuance has made me more attentive as an artist, more curious, and more intentional about honoring the interior lives of the characters I play.
4.In today’s global creative landscape, artists often move between cultures and industries. What have you learned about yourself as a creative while working across different environments?
Working across different cultural and creative environments has taught me that adaptability is one of my strengths, but so is intuition. No matter the setting, I’ve learned to trust my inner compass and stay anchored in emotional truth. I’ve also learned that storytelling is a universal language. While aesthetics, customs, and industries may change, the desire to feel seen, understood and moved is constant. That realization has given me confidence in my voice as a creative, knowing that authenticity travels, and the most meaningful work often comes from honoring where you came from while staying open to where you’re going.

Lee’s reflections highlight storytelling as a universal language that transcends cultural and geographic boundaries. By honoring both where she comes from and where she is going, Lee continues to contribute to storytelling that values emotional depth, strength and human connection.
