🇰🇷🇲🇦 Cultural Exchange Through Youth Voices: Introducing Morocco at a Korean High School
2025-12-29As part of ongoing efforts to promote global understanding and cross-cultural exchange, I recently had the meaningful opportunity to visit a Korean high school and introduce my home country, Morocco, to Korean students. This experience was not only an educational exchange, but also a moment of genuine connection between cultures, highlighting the importance of youth-driven global dialogue.
The visit took place in collaboration with Dongseo University, within the framework of an international youth exchange initiative that encourages mutual learning and cultural curiosity among students. Through this program, I was invited to speak at Yangjeong High School, where I met a group of bright, enthusiastic, and open-minded Korean students.

During the presentation, I introduced Morocco not only as a geographical destination, but as a country rich in history, diversity, and living traditions. From its unique position bridging Africa, the Arab world, and the Mediterranean, to its vibrant cities, Amazigh heritage, traditional cuisine, and everyday customs, the goal was to show Morocco as a dynamic and multifaceted society.
Visual materials and real-life examples were used to help students better understand Moroccan daily life, values, and cultural practices. Special attention was given to traditional clothing, food culture, hospitality, and the role of family and community—topics that resonated strongly with the students.
What made the session especially memorable was the students’ curiosity. They asked thoughtful questions about Moroccan youth, education, language diversity, and even similarities between Korean and Moroccan culture. Their engagement reflected a sincere interest in learning about a country that may feel geographically distant, yet emotionally relatable.
A Two-Way Cultural Conversation
Rather than a one-sided presentation, the session naturally evolved into a cultural exchange. Students shared their perspectives, compared school life in Korea and Morocco, and expressed interest in international experiences. This mutual dialogue reinforced the idea that cultural exchange is most powerful when it is interactive and personal.
Moments like these demonstrate how young people can become informal cultural ambassadors, breaking down preconceived ideas and building bridges through conversation and curiosity. Even small exchanges—laughter over cultural differences or surprise at shared values—can leave a lasting impact.
The Importance of Youth-Led Global Exchange

This visit reaffirmed the importance of educational and cultural programs that connect students across borders. High school students, in particular, are at an age where exposure to global perspectives can shape how they view the world, diversity, and international cooperation.
Programs supported by universities and educational institutions play a crucial role in fostering these opportunities. By opening classrooms to international voices, schools encourage empathy, openness, and a deeper appreciation of global citizenship.
Strengthening Korea–Morocco Cultural Ties
Although Korea and Morocco are geographically far apart, exchanges like this help bring the two countries closer at a human level. Cultural understanding begins not through policy, but through people—especially young people who are eager to learn and connect.
I am deeply grateful for the warm welcome from the teachers and students, and for the chance to represent Morocco in such a meaningful setting. This experience will remain a cherished memory and a reminder that cultural exchange, no matter how small it may seem, has the power to create lasting connections.
As global citizens, continuing to share stories, traditions, and perspectives is essential.
