Breaking Fast with K-Food: Korea Tourism Organization Hosts Ramadan Harmony Night in Kuala Lumpur
2026-03-17More than 80 participants gathered at Korea Plaza in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on March 12, for the 2026 Ramadan Harmony Night: Buka Puasa with K-Journey, where they enjoyed Korean delicacies while learning travel tips for Muslim travelers to Korea.
Organized by the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO), the event brought together selected participants and Online Supporters of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia for an evening introducing Korea as a Muslim-friendly travel destination, followed by a buka puasa session featuring Korean cuisine.

Muslim-Friendly Tourism
The evening began with an introduction to Korea’s Muslim-Friendly Tourism (MFT) initiatives.
The presentation highlighted key resources for Muslim travelers, including mobile apps such as Korehalal Trip and Mufko, as well as information about mosques in Korea, including the Seoul Central Mosque.

Participants were also introduced to useful Korean phrases for Muslim travelers and recommended areas to visit or stay for convenient access to Muslim-friendly amenities. These included Itaewon in Seoul, Haeundae in Busan, Samyang Roundhill in Gangwon Province and Jeju Island.
Suggested dishes for Muslim travelers included Gangwon-style vegetable rice, makguksu (막국수, buckwheat noodles) and soy sauce crab rice. Seafood and vegetarian options were also highlighted.
The seminar concluded with a quiz session, with participants testing their knowledge of Muslim-friendly travel in Korea.
Breaking Fast with K-Food
Guests later gathered for the buka puasa (breaking of fast) session, featuring Korean dishes provided by the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT Korea) and Kyochon.

The meal included Korean fried chicken, known for being double-fried for extra crispiness and coated in signature Korean sauces. Guests also enjoyed japchae (잡채, stir-fried glass noodles with vegetables), tteokbokki (떡볶이, spicy rice cakes), dosirak (도시락, packed meal) and so-tteok so-tteok (소떡소떡, skewered sausage and rice cakes), along with refreshing sparkling plum fruit tea.
Participants also sampled premium Korean fruits, including sweet Korean strawberries and seedless Shine Muscat grapes.

The evening concluded with a lucky draw featuring prizes such as Korean fruit gift sets, Kyochon vouchers, travel organizers, Innisfree collagen sets and Kakao power banks.
Along with goodie bags from KTO and aT Korea, guests left the event with a deeper understanding of Korea as a welcoming destination for Muslim travelers. For Muslim travellers, travelling to Korea for the first time can be daunting as compared to Malaysia where halal foods and Muslim-friendly facilities are easily available. The session showed attendees that with some research, it is possible to find halal dining options not only in Seoul but in other parts of the country as well.
