[Interview] SungWon Cho on Voicing Abby Saja and Multiple Characters in K-Pop Demon Hunters
2025-08-11From YouTube skits to voicing fan-favorite characters across anime, games and animation, SungWon Cho, also known as ProZD, has carved a space as one of the most distinctive voice talents in the industry today. In K-Pop Demon Hunters – Netflix’s hit animated film blending the high- energy world of K-Pop with supernatural action – Cho brings to life not just one but several colorful characters.
He voices Abby Saja (Abs Saja), the charismatic and sharp-tongued main dancer of the rival demon boy band Saja Boys, whose flirtations charm and competitive streak creative tension with the main group. Additionally, he voices a bathroom patron, a social media fan and several demons, showcasing his remarkable vocal range and comedic instincts.
In this interview SungWon Cho reflects on his voice acting career and the importance of telling stories rooted in Korean culture for a global audience.
The following are excerpts from an email interview with him on August 6.
1.You’ve voiced characters across many genres and formats – from games to animation. What originally inspired you to pursue a career in voice acting, and how has your journey evolved over the years?
When I was in high school, my friend wrote radio plays, and he would cast me and some of my other friends to voice the characters. It was through that process that I fell in love with acting and really felt like I was inhabiting the characters.
2.In K-pop Demon Hunters, you voice Abby Saja, a rival idol with a complex role. What was your process like in developing his voice and personality? Did you draw on anything specific to embody his character?
Nothing too specific, obviously his physicality played a part in it. He struck me as someone who knew he was hot and loved, so I gave him a voice that had sort of a show-offy quality to it.
3.The film blends Korean culture, K-Pop and fantasy. How familiar were you with K-pop before this project, and did that influence your performance in any way?
I’m a big fan of K-Pop; I love groups like Red Velvet, Twice and Girls’ Generation. I think my love for K-Pop combined with the beautiful visual look of the film both helped influence my performances throughout the film.

4.What were some of the most enjoyable or challenging moments during the recoding of this film?
Not a lot of people realize that besides Abby Saja, I also voice the old man in the bathhouse. It was very fun getting to play a few different characters with very different voices in the film. When I finished recording, I did not realize that Arden Cho (the voice of Rumi) had been watching my record; she came into the booth saying, “HOW DID YOU DO ALL THOSE VOICES?!” and was very kind. I love getting to play a variety of characters in my line of work.
5.What does it mean to you to be part of a culturally significant project like K-Pop Demon hunters, which introduces Korean culture to a global audience through animation?
It’s a huge honor as a Korean American to be a part of something this significant. I hope more people become interested not just in K-Pop but all aspects of Korean culture.
SungWon’s ability to shift between humor, villainy and sincerity has made him a standout in K-Pop Demon Hunters and beyond. As Korean culture continues to reach new global heights through music, film and animation, artists like Cho play an important role in bridging the gap between identity and entertainment.
