Webtoon Expo in Cairo: Celebrating Korean Creativity in Comic Art
As part of its global tour, the Korean Cultural Center in Cairo is hosting the "World of K-Comics" exhibition in July 2025, with the distinguished participation of renowned Korean artist Choi Kyu suk. The exhibition highlights his famous work "Hellbound," which gained widespread international acclaim after being adapted into a successful series on Netflix. Choi is considered one of the most prominent pioneers of realistic manhwa, and is distinguished by his critical style that reflects Korean societal issues from a profound human perspective, in addition to a number of influential works that boldly and honestly discuss social topics.
It's no exaggeration to say that the exhibition was unique in every detail, captivating from the very first moment. The visual design, the way the stories were presented, and the atmosphere that blended fantasy and reality all made me feel as if I were stepping through vivid pages. I was truly amazed by the precision of the details and the depth of the messages conveyed by the works on display, especially when I saw how comics can embody societal and human issues in a simple yet engaging way. It was an unforgettable experience that added a lot to me and broadened my vision of this wonderful art form that combines pleasure and thought.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition was graced by the presence of renowned Korean author Choi Kyu suk, author of the acclaimed story "The Abyss," which gained widespread acclaim after being adapted into a successful drama series on a global platform. The author delivered a speech during the ceremony, speaking about his journey in the world of writing and illustration, and the challenges he faced in transforming a written story into a compelling visual work.
