Passerelles artistiques : Jean-Julien Pous le vidéaste français qui sublime les plus grands Musées coréens
2024-09-16L’année dernière en assistant à l’exposition des nouveaux membres de L’AJAC dans le but d’écrire un article sur le travail artistique de jeunes artistes coréens de la région bordelaise, je rencontrais le vidéaste jean-Julien Pous qui était venu filmer l’exposition et notamment la performance artistique de l’artiste Soobin. Jean Jullien est un artiste vidéaste Français de 40 ans, né en Chine, marié à une coréenne, et passe essentiellement sa vie entre la France et la Corée du Sud
Lors de notre rencontre nous avons échangé, peu, mais amicalement, entre artiste c’est plus facile. Nous nous sommes revus à différents évènements organisé par l’association des coréens de bordeaux et à notre dernière entrevue, je lui proposais de faire un article sur sa prochaine création. L’utilisation de la video dans mon travail artistique n’est pas ce vers quoi je me tourne naturellement, mais la manière dont Jean-julien m’a parlé de son travail m’a donné envie de le mettre en lumière.
Il se dégage une douce harmonie artistique de ses installations. Un accord stylistique et incarné. L’artiste ne se contente pas de « filmer » il créé des images et les assembles pour nous conter une histoire.
Il nous plonge tout entier dans la culture coréenne mélangeant le passé des peintures traditionnelles et le présent de l’image animée dans A collector Gaze une video réalisée pour l’exposition Generous Collectors : the Joy of Sharing, the Pleasure of Collecting (수집의 즐거움 공감의 기쁨) au Musée de Busan
La video démarre avec un homme de dos, assis et entouré de sa collection d'oeuvres d'art, avec de magnifiques céramiques, des instruments de musiques traditionnels coréens. On découvre l’intérieur des Hanoks, ces maisons typiquement coréenne, avec le plancher de bois et les murs recouvert de papier de murier. L’atmosphère chaleureuse et intime est plantée.
Ces videos sont souvent infusées d’un sentiment de contemplation, où le spectateur s’abandonne et s’immerge dans cette l’atmosphère. L'installation immersive « Mouvement » réalisé pour le Centre Culturel Coréen de Paris cet été dans le cadre de l’exposition « Noli : jeux Coréens » nous propose quatre écrans qui nous plongent au coeur du mouvement du corps, le mouvement sportif ou le ki cette l’énergie vitale circule dans le corps, nous enveloppe de sa lumière.
Trois sports originaires de Corée y sont représentés tels la lutte Sirum (씨름) le taekwondo ou le tir à l’arc (궁술). Ce travail en collaboration avec Hyunji & Kayip, s’est avéré être un véritable défi technique et à demandé à Jean-julien et son équipe une année de travail ; ainsi qu’une collaboration étroite avec des sportifs coréens de haut niveau pour capturer le geste parfait de chaque discipline. Vous retrouverez Kwon Ohjung pour le tir à l’arc, Lee Sunwoo, Kim Hyoonwoo, Jeong Hyundam pour la lutte et Hwang In Mu, Son Gun Heui, Yeongwoong Taekwondojang pour le taekwondo.
L’utilisation principale du noir et blanc nous oblige à la concentration sur l’essentiel : l’atmosphère. Le choix de la répétition visuelle et cyclique tend vers un état méditatif du spectateur, on est comme happé par l’écran. Comme dans « Cycle et Lighthouse » trois videos pour l’exposition « A Room of Quiet Contemplation (사유의 방)" au Muséum National de Corée. Vous pouvez aussi découvrir les prise de vue photographiques des deux bronzes doré de l'époque des Trois Royaumes (57 av. J.-C. - 668 apr. J.-C.) représentant deux bodhisattva, qui servirent pour la réalisation de l’affiche de l’exposition et de sa brochure. Ce travail photographique nous plonge dans la philosophie bouddhique.
L’ambiance sonore joue un rôle prépondérant dans cet univers artistique.
Des grondement telluriques, les bruits de la nature et tintements nous bercent ; L’écoulement du temps et l’impermanence se révèlent dans « Song of the Stones » inclus dans l’exposition Room of Buddhist Temples (돌의 선율) au Musée National de Gyeongju.
Un balancement visuel entre les espaces vides de la nature et la plénitude de la pierre de la construction humaine.
Le travail artistique de Jean-julien est un manifeste du pluralisme culturel ! Le court métrage « Sous l’eau » en est le témoignage émouvant et envoutant.
Bercé par la voix douce de l’artiste qui nous livre ici son sentiment au gré de ces déambulations dans cette mégapole moderne qu’est Séoul. Bruits, lumières de la ville contrastant avec la mélancolie du texte égrainé lentement. Le travail photographique là encore nous dévoile les couleurs de la Corée.
Jean-julien Pous nous donne à voir la culture coréenne du prisme de son expérience et son appréhension pluri culturel. Son travail est une ode à la Culture et le goût pour une recherche ou onirisme et technologie se mêlent tout en poésie.
