The K-music Festival in London, United Kingdom, took place across October and November 2025, and was organised by the Korean Cultural Centre UK (KCCUK). I went to see a wonderful concert with the Korean group Hilgeum making their London debut. Hilgeum is a trio playing traditional Korean string instruments in a modern way: Yoin Cho plays the gayageum, Yerim Kim the geomungo and Somin Park plays the haegeum.
The concert started with Hilgeum playing some intriguing pieces as a trio. For this concert they were later joined by the British singer, violinist and composer Alice Zawadzki and she performed a couple of solo pieces before she joined forces with Hilgeum for the last part of the concert.
Hilgeum and Alice Zawadski did a couple of pieces together including one of my favourites, 'Utopia', as a mashup with a traditional Polish piece, blending Korean and European traditional music in a very interesting way.
The concert took place at the Purcell Room at the Southbank Centre in London.
