To celebrate the 628th anniversary of King Sejong's birth, the Korean Culture Center in Brazil hosted a special lecture led by Korean language teacher Misun Jung. The event gathered nearly 150 attendees, including Korean language students and members of the general public.
For about one hour, Jung guided the audience through King Sejong’s life, from his rise to the throne to the legacy he left behind. The talk went beyond the creation of Hangul, highlighting his scientific innovations and deep care for his people, such as the creation of public clinics and the development of agricultural tools like sun and water clocks.
Teacher Jung emphasized how King Sejong’s vision helped shape Korea into the country it is today, inspiring people across the world, including in Brazil, to connect with its culture and language. Towards the end of the session, she playfully remarked that without King Sejong, there would be no Hangul, and therefore no BTS, no Korean dramas, and no Korean Culture Center as we know it today. Her message underscored the far-reaching cultural impact of a king whose vision still resonates.
