On October 22nd of 2025, I had the honor to interview Marisol Ramos online. In this column, she told us more about her dancing lessons and how K-pop has impacted her and her students. And, she is an example of how a hobby can become your dream job and impact lives with purpose. Get to know her by reading this article.
From a high school inspo to a dream job. Who’s Marisol?
In Mexico K-pop, it’s not only a genre of music. It goes beyond that, it has become a shelter for so many people in their darkest moments, but also in their joyful ones.
And that is the case of Marisol Ramos, a girl who was born in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, Mexico with 33 years old. She has bachelor in law from the University of Sonora (UNISON) campus Navojoa. She has turned her passion for dancing into a project that has inspired a huge community that is called “MRD CREW” that was founded by her in 2011, but took it professionally in 2022 after winning a competition.
The Cajemense, told us that she was inspired by a friend in High School that did contemporary dance. She was so thrilled and amazed by her that this experience led her to teach later in life; she had the motivation to teach others and to take classes to know more about dancing.
“Dancing gave me confidence. It broke my shyness. And I believe that happens to many”, she added.
She mentioned that there wasn’t any particular song that got her into K-pop, but there’s a highlight back in 2018 at an Asian event–Animecon. Where she was participating as a judge and she was able to see groups of people dancing with perfect technique. That was the moment she got more involved in K-pop.
Achievements and chosen family
Even though she specialized in K-pop,she also liked other genres like hip hop, break dance and popping. These last ones are what she enjoys the most. She mentioned that this mix of rhythms infuses color and gives identity to her group. Ramos, has participated and won several contests around The Mexican Republic.
"When I was in my first competition I realized that I wasn't ready, I panicked, but at the end of the day, we’ll never be ready; the point is to give it a try", she pointed out.
On the other hand, she says that she has discovered a more sensitive part of herself in dancing. She says that in the past she has found very mean teachers that treat their students wrong and she didn’t want to be like them. That’s why she tries to be the adult that she needed when she was younger.
This sensitivity has helped her connect in the relationship with her students on a deeper level. She called this “her family by choice”.
As many artists around the world she tries to do some dynamics with her students to release stress. They yell and sing at the top of their lungs a mexican song of the band, “Banda de Jerez, “Tamarindo”.

How does this relate to Korean culture and Mexico?

Korean people are doing a very hard work in every corner of the world to promote their culture, so it’s not surprising that they do contests in their country to receive foreigners and present on stage those dance covers.
Children, young people and adults, get involved in their culture because of their special way to attract them by the aesthetic of their visuals in their videoclips, films, etc, besides the big effort for most of the people in these projects.
She says that the climb isn’t that important, but the view. “Just by living the moment you’re already learning”. Simple but powerful as Marisol’s personality.
Marisol has many hopes for her students, one is for them to be happy. It doesn’t matter the goal, number, because it doesn’t define them. She invites readers to give it a try, because no one is born an expert.
