Korea Net announced a new workshop titled “APEC 2025”, held as part of this year’s Honorary Reporters Program. When I saw the announcement, I was eager to join, as I wanted to learn more about the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.
The workshop began with an introduction of Mr. Jhoo Dongchan, a journalist from Korea Times. He explained the fundamentals of news writing, emphasizing the six essential questions that every article should answer, and noting that each paragraph should convey a fact, a piece of information, or an idea.
Mr. Jhoo also spoke about the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), describing it as a regional economic forum that brings together 21 member economies across the Asia-Pacific region. APEC promotes free trade and investment while facilitating regional economic integration and cooperation.

The forum holds its annual summit with the participation of leaders from member economies to discuss major global economic issues such as supply chains, digital innovation, and clean energy, making it one of the most significant platforms for international economic coordination.
Korea will host the summit for the first time in nearly 20 years, since it was last held in Busan in 2005. The 2025 APEC Leaders’ Meeting will take place in Gyeongju on October 31 and November 1, 2025.
The summit’s theme is “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow,” focusing on three main pillars: connectivity, innovation, and prosperity.
As for the host city, Gyeongju is located in the southeastern part of North Gyeongsang Province. It was the capital of the ancient Silla Kingdom and was historically known as Seorabeol.

The city is home to numerous temples, shrines, and royal sites, along with modern hotels, entertainment venues, and restaurants, making it a distinctive destination rich in history and culture.
The workshop concluded with a Q&A session via Zoom, where participants shared their thoughts and questions.
In conclusion, this workshop was a unique learning experience that deepened my understanding of APEC. On a personal level, it was an inspiring opportunity to take part in an international activity of this scale, which further strengthened my passion for journalism and continuous learning.
