Korean Film Day, a special event as part of 'Korea Flix' at El-Sawy Cultural Wheel in Zamalek
2025-02-27
It is a well-known fact for all Korean culture lovers in Egypt and regular visitors to the Korean Cultural Center in Egypt that the center organizes the ‘Korea Flix’ event on Wednesdays at 1:00 PM, where a Korean film is shown with subtitles, and after it ends, the center discusses the film with the viewers.
But last week - specifically on February 13th - the center surprised its visitors by announcing that today’s film - February 26th - would be shown in the Al-Kalma Hall at El-Sawy Cultural Wheel in Zamalek.
Those who wished to attend would choose one of the 3 suggested films.
Of course, I was excited and filled out the attendance form and chose one of the films.
On February 16th, the center announced that the film with the highest number of votes, ‘Soulmate’, was the film that was unanimously scheduled to be shown. I received a notification via WhatsApp from the center inviting me to watch.

Indeed, I went today to watch the movie and enjoy the event that began with a welcoming speech from Mr. ‘Oh Sung-ho’, the director of the center, who in turn congratulated the attendees on the advent of Ramadan and wished them a happy viewing, and confirmed that this year would be full of surprises and events marking the 30th anniversary of Egyptian-Korean diplomatic relations.

In a nice gesture, the organizers offered free popcorn to the viewers to provide a complete cinematic experience.
About 50 people attended the event despite the bitter cold to enjoy the event.
The movie depicts the ups and downs of friendship between two girls born in 1988, ‘Mi-Soo’ and ‘Ha-eun’, who spent their childhood together. Their happy world changes when they reach their late teens, as ‘Ha-Eun’ falls in love with her classmate ‘Jin-Woo’ for the first time. Meanwhile, ‘Mi-Soo’ leaves for the city in search of an adventurous life, while ‘Ha-Eun’ stays in her hometown to build a stable life, and as time passes, the distance between them begins to widen.
This story is about soulmates and the bright times when we were together doing everything hand in hand.
The movie was touching, but I enjoyed the deep emotions and unexpected twists.
After the movie ended, we took memorial photos with the center’s representatives. But the photos haven't been shared yet by the center.
I needed a different day like this to break my boring routine. So, I thank the Korean Cultural Center for this special event, as usual, it never fails to surprise and amaze us in every event it organizes.
I am eagerly awaiting and excited about this year’s events marking the 30th anniversary of Egyptian-Korean relations, hoping that they will continue and become more connected and prosperous forever.
Please wait for my articles this year to share with you all the new events!
See you later!
