n the world of Korean entertainment, dating shows have become increasingly popular among both local and international audiences. With various intriguing concepts and enjoyable atmospheres, Korean dating shows often provide entertaining and emotionally engaging viewing experiences. As someone who has watched several Korean dating shows, I would like to share recommendations for some programs that I believe are worth watching. From romantic love stories to more experimental formats, Korean dating shows offer a range of options to entertain and inspire viewers.
Transit Love. This show revolves around ex-couples who have broken up for various reasons, gathering to reunite with an ex-lover or find a new partner. The participants, who are not strangers but rather former lovers, live together under one roof for weeks, going on dates and getting to know each other without knowing each other's exes. The emotional rollercoaster of this show spans 20 episodes, from sadness to joy to anger due to the behavior of exes or new people. What makes this show interesting is witnessing Korean dating culture, such as celebrating 100 days of dating and capturing relationship moments through photoboxes or writing letters during military service. I always keep tissues handy while watching this show, as it showcases not only Korean dating culture but also interesting date locations and delicious food. Their Season 3 will airing their last episode on this week, April 19th at 12 PM KST only on TVING. You can watch Season 1 and 2 through TVING and VIU (Season 1 not available on VIU).
My Sibling’s Romance. This show puts a twist on dating shows by involving family members. Four pairs of biological siblings gather in a shared house to help each other find romantic partners. It's fascinating to see siblings choosing dating partners for each other, as it reveals how well they know each other's preferences. Despite focusing on siblings, parents also participate by encouraging their children through self-interviews about their offspring. This show not only serves as a matchmaking platform but also as a way for participants to gain a new family. I also amazed by their education and job! This show really worth to watch especially for those who are looking for family show and dating show in one show. Currently airing with seven episodes, new episodes are released every Friday at 6:50 PM KST on WAVVE and 9:30 PM GMT+7 on VIU.
19 to 20. This show follows the journey of young 19 year olds transitioning into adulthood at the age of 20. Participants spend their final week as 19 and their first week as 20 after ringing in the new year. They attend "19 School" to learn useful adult skills before moving into the "20 House" on New Year's Day, where they experience independence and create meaningful memories. Each participant has a unique personality, and what sets this show apart is their boldness in approaching potential partners. Unlike other dating shows where participants are more cautious, these 20-year-olds are unafraid to pursue their interests, resulting in entertaining and unpredictable interactions. With 13 episodes, the show is available on Netflix.
Single’s Inferno. This show takes flirty singles to a deserted island for 10 days, where they must find love to escape as couples for romantic date nights in paradise. It's my favorite dating show because of the intense emotions and fierce competition it showcases. The contestants compete in various challenges to earn the chance for a romantic date night in paradise, leading to exciting and heartwarming moments. With three seasons available on Netflix, Single’s Inferno is a must-watch for those who enjoy thrilling dating show experiences.
There are numerous popular Korean dating shows, each with its unique and captivating concept. I hope my recommendations will help readers choose their next Korean dating show adventure!
