Cherry Blossoms Remind Me of the Republic of Korea

Cherry Blossom Season is Just around the Corner in The Republic of Korea
What is it about these cherry blossoms that many people travel halfway around the world to go see? During the months of March and April, festivals and other events are planned and celebrated because of these tiny pink flowers. Once bloomed, they last about 5-10 days so planning your vacation around this season might be tricky as blooming varies from year to year. Because of the phrase, "Pink, pink you stink", I have never been fond of the color pink. However, in the spring of 2019, I travelled to the Republic of Korea to seek out these cherry blossoms. I needed to see for myself what all the buzz was about regarding these tiny pink flowers. I was truly mesmerized! It was an idyllic pink wonderland with a perfect heavenly fragrance! I wanted to stay forever and did not want them to disappear.

My Annual Search for Cherry Blossoms in the Kingdom of Norway
Like many things, the cherry blossom season faded away and I had to travel back home to the Kingdom of Norway. Cherry blossom season comes during the April and May months, so upon my return home, their beauty enchanted me once again. This was when my fascination for cherry blossoms flourished and when my annual hunt for cherry blossoms officially commenced. Social media and other websites kept me up to date on where cherry blossoms were located and when they will bloom.

Searching for cherry blossoms every year reminds me of the cherry blossoms I came to love in the Republic of Korea. I am no longer homesick and my heart is happy once again. This year I hope to see the cherry blossoms in the city of Bergen, located on the western coast. Where will you be doing your cherry blossom gazing this year?

A Brief History
The origin of the cherry tree in the Republic of Korea is not confirmed and several theories have been discussed. In 1945, after the liberation from Japan, the Koreans removed the cherry trees that were planted by the Japanese. However, they later found out that those trees came from their own Jeju Island and they decided to preserve as many of the cherry trees as possible.

The Most Common Varieties of Cherry Blossoms
Cherry blossoms is a symbol for the renewal of life and brings joy to the hearts of many people around the world. There are over 300 varieties of cherry trees with a life span of about 16-20 years.
