Celebrating 50 years of the Han-Mee Artist Association of Greater Washington, the Korean Cultural Center presents The New Beginnings, an exhibition that honors five decades of artistic resilience and Korean-American cultural Heritage. Next, a few personal favorites from the exhibition. Photo by: Clara Nauri.
This was one of my favorites: Revival by Choung-Hee Lim, an artist born in Seoul who currently resides in Virginia. Lim has been connected to the arts from an early age, as some of her family members studied art as well, wich allowed her to pursue a career in the same field. Photo by: Clara Nauri.
This painting captivated me with its use and combination of colors. I felt a sense of tenderness from the adorable facial expression. The use of curves really stands out. I Wish, I Wish by Jihee Hahn. Photo by: Clara Nauri.
Seeing this painting was a lovely surprise. As someone from Peru, it meant a lot to see Machu Picchu portratyed so vibrantly. Younho Choi's colorful, elongated landscapes reflect his years in South America and collaborations with local artists. Photo by: Clara Nauri.
A highly creative piece, written in both Braille and standard text, with each Braille letter placed over its corresponding printed word. Blind in Art – Prologues by artist Hyun Jung Kim combines canvas, pearls, silk string, and gold leaf to create multidimensional experience. Photo by: Clara Nauri.
Something different and monochromatic that brings balance to the overall exhibition–this piece is a classic in any gallery. While it may seem simple at first glance, its complexity lies in the meticulous landscape details, almost like a photograph. Koreatown by Night by Bo Kim. Photo by: Clara Nauri.
Another one of my favorites–this piece has a classical art feel to it, at least from my perspective, and it portrays one of my passions: ballet and ballerinas. According to the artist, he enjoys capturing different moments from daily life–scenes he finds fascinating and worthy of admiration. Ballerina by Zechariah Choi. Photo by: Clara Nauri.
A final look at The New Beginnings – a glimpse into three of the gallery’s corners, showcasing the diversity, emotion, and creativity of Korean-American artists over the past 50 years. So grateful to the Korean Cultural Center in DC for hosting such a beautiful exhibition. It was a joy to explore and reflect on each of these works. Photo by: Clara Nauri.
