January comes with new adventures and with the ongoing Korea Grand Sale, there are a lot of cities offering unique experiences. The first city being explored this year is Muju. Muju is located in the North Jeolla Province and roughly a 3 hours bus ride from Seoul.
Surrounded by mountains, Muju offers several experiences all year round. In summer, the fireflies come out and shine bright. The presence of fireflies in the Namdaecheon Stream and the Geumgang River demonstrates how clean Muju’s environment is. In fall and spring, the leaves show their vibrant colors over their vast lands. In winter, thousands of visitors go to the mountains to ski.
Muju Meoru Wine Cave
Our guide explained the history of the wine tunnel. The wine tunnel used to be an excavation working site used when building the Muju Water Power Plant. Due to its consistent temperature and enclosed area, the experts felt it would be an ideal place to mature and store wine. With its clean water, delicious wild grapes and perfect conditions, Muju has been able to establish themselves in the Korean wine industry.
The experiences.
In the cave, you can experience wine tasting from different Muju wineries. In addition to the tasting, you can buy some cheese from Imsil, a neighboring city, and other parts of Korea to enhance the tasting experience. Not only can you taste these wines, but you can also buy them.
At the end of the tunnel, there is also a wine foot bath spa. As we know, red wine is full of Resveratrol, an ingredient that gives wine its antioxidant properties. Just soaking your feet in warm water helps with blood circulation so in theory, the inclusion of wine should allegedly have more benefits. Despite this, just like every other foot spa, it was relaxing and appreciated in the winter cold.
2025 is the year to explore the unexplored treasures of Korea. How about joining us to explore the unknown?
