The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Nepal office organized a two day ‘KOICA Nepal office photo exhibition and cultural event’ on 11th – 12th September, 2024, at the KOICA ICT Center, Institute of Engineering (IOE), Pulchowk Campus in Kathmandu. The two-day event featured engaging activities and exhibitions, focusing on KOICA’s development cooperation in Nepal, under the theme of prosperity, happiness and humanity.
The KOICA organized this event to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Korea and Nepal, which began in 15th May, 1974. Several programs were organized to celebrate this milestone journey, highlight the intensive ties between the two nations and marked the beginning of a more strong and enduring partnership.
The exhibition also displayed cultural aspects of Korea such as food, traditional games, traditional Korean clothing (Hanbok), calligraphy, K-pop, K-culture booth-allowing visitors to experience authentic Korean culture, K-food zone as well as Eco-booth (the booth showcased eco-friendly sanitary pads and nurture sustainable and proper reproductive health) and many other Korean cultural experience programs. One special highlight of the event was the announcement of winners of the KOICA Photo Contest.
On the opening day of the event, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea Mr. Tae-young Park, Secretary of Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration of Nepal, Mr. Bharat Mani Subedi representatives from Korean Associations, United Nations Directorate, high level government officials from different ministries, KOICA partners, KOICA overseas volunteers and the public were present.
In the event, Ambassador Park addressed mutual cooperation programs that would further strengthen the close ties between Korea and Nepal, and raise the bilateral relationship to the new heights. Similarly, Country Director of KOICA Nepal office Mooheon Kong delivered his gratitude to the Government of Nepal and all partners for their crucial support in advancing KOICA’s mission and further said that this event symbolizes not just a photo exhibition but a joint journey for prosperity and humanity.
Over the past 50 years, the bilateral relationship has flourished, with both countries collaborating comprehensively in areas such as the economy, infrastructure, development, employment and other sectors as well. This cooperation has been marked by a steady growth in mutual support and shared projects. The Korean Government has contributed significantly through KOICA's initiatives. The ongoing partnership continues to build on these achievements, reflecting the deepening ties and commitment between the two nations.
