K-Pop goes interactive at the B★VERSE "Singing The Stars" exhibition in Manila, Philippines. But is it a worthwhile experience for the devoted BTS ARMY?
B★VERSE (pronounced “B-Star-Verse”) is a play on BTS’ name combined with the concept of a universe dedicated to the K-pop superstars. This immersive exhibition, a collaboration between Korea’s The Fact Music Awards (TMA) and YiZ Entertainment, brings a unique adventure to the fandom. The Philippines is its fourth stop after its success in Malaysia, Japan, and Thailand.
I got invited to The Purple Carpet event last May 17, 2024. Located on the 4th level of Araneta City’s Gateway Mall 2 in Cubao, Quezon City, the launch was attended by Filipino pop groups, Binibining Pilipinas candidates, selected journalists, influencers, and the BTS ARMY fan groups. Hosted by digital creator Samm Alvero, the activities were designed to provide a memorable day to the purple-blooded attendees.
After visiting the production, I’ve compiled seven reasons why B★VERSE “BTS, Singing The Stars” in Manila is worth one’s time and money:
1. Flexible Ticketing
Choose between a Regular Pass (₱1,500) for a specific date and time, or a Flexi-Pass (₱1,900) if you are unsure which slot you can go on your chosen day.
2. Perks and Savings
BPI, the official bank partner, offers their cardholders a special discount if you buy it online.
Plus, each ticket purchase entitles the owner to receive a complimentary cinema pass. If you buy a movie ticket at Gateway Malls on the same day as your B★VERSE visit, you can get a free Cineplex 18 pass. Simply present your B★VERSE ticket at the cinema booth.
3. Capture memories with BTS
Inspired by the third TMA photobook called Present, a tree installation and standees of BTS allow the visitors to document their visit.
4. Seven rooms celebrate BTS’ individuality, and a special area immortalizes the connection between the septet and the BTS ARMY.
Explore the sensibilities of each member through RM’s Nature Planet, Jin’s Satellite, J-Hope’s Hope Planet, V’s Film Planet, Suga’s Art Planet, Jimin’s Aqua Planet, and Jung Kook’s Prism Planet - each of these spaces were curated to display their personality. The most memorable for me is the ARMY Way, which curates photos and quotes about the relationship between BTS and their loyal fandom.
5. The VR show and the projection mapping room can bring you closer to BTS.
I watched BTS’ appearances on The Fact Music Awards (TMA). But seeing it in VR is a whole new experience. The visual and auditory recreation was top-notch, providing an opportunity for people to see BTS up close through technology.
The 360-degree show in the projection mapping area is equipped with concert-like surround sound and clear visuals, making it the perfect finale for the one-hour-long spectacle.
6. Bring home exclusive merch.
At the exit, a gift shop is filled with exclusive B★VERSE merchandise such as folders, postcards, calendars, brochures, tote bags, and t-shirts.
But if you are still saving up for their comeback in 2025, you don’t have to worry.
Every ticket already includes a free battery-operated ARMY Star Badge, a zipped lock pouch, and a random photo card. I initially pulled Jin but traded it with another writer, for a poca of my bias, RM.
7. Connect with fellow BTS ARMY!
Spending time with people who share your passion for BTS makes you feel right at home. The B★VERSE Manila team onsite is also incredibly helpful, with members even assisting fans in taking photos and answering their inquiries.
B★VERSE "BTS, Singing The Stars" is more than just a tribute to BTS – it's a testament to the global impact of Korean entertainment. This showcases the power of Korean music and design combined with business and technological innovation. Even with BTS serving in the military, B★VERSE proves that the future of K-Pop is as bright and powerful as its stars.
