A French student in Korea shares her experience in various tourism and cultural programs
2024-05-07In an age filled with cultural diversity and global communication, study abroad experiences represent a countless opportunity to discover the world in its diverse concepts and details. Among the popular destinations to study abroad, Korea stands out for having one of the most advanced and advanced education systems in the world, in addition to being one of the most interesting and culturally attractive destinations blending ancient traditions with an advanced modern present.
In addition to the distinguished education system in Korea, this country provides many educational and cultural programs for foreigners that allow them to experience Korean culture and learn more about it, as well as discover the ancient history of this country and visit many traditional and modern places, and by browsing various social networking sites and the websites of multiple entities in Korea, I had the opportunity to discover many of these programs and to learn more about them, I conducted a dialogue via the Instagram with my friend Elisa from France, a graduate student specializing in tourism at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, who shared with us her experience in some of these different programs.
Explain why you are interested in participating in these programs?
I really love participating in this program because I think it is a good way to discover some less known destination in Korea. Moreover, because sometimes when you are a foreigner, it's quite difficult to move around by yourself because you don't really know about the transportation or there can be also the language barriers. Therefore, thanks to this program, I got the chance to discover less known destination, experience more authentic experience of Korea, and get to know more deeply the Korean culture. That's why I really like this kind of program.
What programs have you participated in so far?
I was an honorary reporter and k-infleuncer, and I participate in the program called Ttobagi family. In addition, there was another program where I was the ambassador of the Gangwon-do Province.
For those who don’t know what is honorary reporter program, It’s a program where we wrote some articles for the ministry of culture, sports and tourism website, and we got the opportunity for people living in Korea to experience some different activities to get to know more about the Korean culture, for example, I used to do Korean lake awareness at the National Museum of Korea, and I also had the opportunity to experience traditional medicine at the k-medical center.
K-influencer Academy, is a program where every month you have to post some videos around one specific time, thanks to this program I also got the opportunity to do some temple stay.
Ttobagi family, it's a program that only focus on rural area in Korea, so it's really interesting because you get to travel in the most authentic places in Korea, in my opinion, and it's a completely new experience compared to other cities you are used to visit, and I think you felt more closer to the people living there and you get to know more about their life, what they are doing in their area and to promote them, so it's very interesting.
The last one was the Gangwon-do Ambassador Program, I used to visit many destination in Gangwon-do such as Chuncheon, Sokcho, Chongjin, Pyeongchang and Yongpyong, thanks to this program, I experienced many new activities such a skiing or doing surfing, it was interesting to try to express myself and try other activities that I never tried in France.
What experiences have you benefited from?
I think it was a real benefit because as a student in tourism, I could discover a lot of places that maybe I can introduce to people later so in that aspect it's very interesting and I also got to create a lot of content to talk about this different destination so I also got opportunity to improve, I think and I hope about my video editing skills or also pictures editing skills or just making some different content to promote destination; so I think it's kind of help me in this way.
Do you have unforgettable moments from your travels that you want to share?
My favorite memory from my travels is the weekend we spent in Sokcho and Yongpyong where I experienced surfing for the first time it was a great experience and even though at first I was a little bit afraid of then I enjoyed it and can’t wait to try it again, I think we were quite lucky because there was a festival on the beach so we could enjoy the festival at night after surfing, in the day after when we visited the temple the weather was nice. It was a super weekend.
Are there plans for the future to participate in other tourism programs?
I plan to participate again in those programs because it's always a good experience and I always have a good time doing that so if I had the opportunity to do more then I will apply again.
Do you have any advice for individuals who plan to participate in similar tourism programs in the future?
For all the people who are planning to participate in a similar tourism program, just enjoy every moment and try to make memories and discover the beauty and charm of Korea and Korean culture.
If you want to participate in one of these programs and are wondering where you can find more information, the answer is so easy and simple; you can search on the Internet and check the social media of different provinces of Korea.
