My journey as an Honorary Reporter(HR) began in 2021 and so far, it has been a wonderful journey of creating connections, learning and gathering enlightening experiences related to Korea. I have worked as a reporter and writer in various positions in the past, and as I continue my writing journey, I feel I have gained much insight in many of my fields of interest related to Korean culture and travel. To support my interests, I decided to take a concrete step in the direction of learning the basics of photography, a skill which is beneficial for writers who prefer to use their own photos in the articles. I have a personal knack for always using my own photos, so I thought it would be worthwhile to brush up my photography skills at least on a basic level.
To hone my skills as an HR for Korea.net, I joined the Basic Photography course at the Pathshala South Asian Media Institute located in my city Dhaka last October. Although it was a short course with about 8/9 classes, it opened up a new world for me. Photography is such a vast field of study and there is so much to learn about the technicalities of using a camera without the automatic functions which we are so used to.
Studying about the basics of handling a camera in manual mode has been a very intriguing experience. Depending on what kind of photos you are interested to take for example; street photography, product photography, portraits, nature, sports, landscape, macro (taking close up photos of tiny objects, insects, flowers etc), techniques and equipment also vary. For my articles I usually take a lot of photos for Korean products and also landscape and nature. Before I joined this course, I always took photos in Auto mode, so I didn’t have to think about the nitty gritty adjustments of the camera required for this kind of photography. Now that I know the basics, I am quite comfortable with working on the manual mode as adjusting the camera settings manually to make a good capture.

Thanks to the Honorary Reporter’s program, I got to explore a new world of photography. It is a milestone in my continuous effort to improve my skills as a content creator and writer. I hope to grow as a writer and photographer along with this journey and look forward to using my new found skills for future articles as an HR.
