The Korean Embassy in Greece and K-Wave Greece Thessaloniki organized the K-Wave Night in Thessaloniki on September 10 at the Mediterranean Palace Hotel in the city center. Attendance for the first event was by invitation only given to the first 20 people who signed up on the Korean Embassy Facebook page. The highlight of the event was cooking and tasting Hansik (Korean food) alongside the Korean chef of the Korean Embassy. The cooking class started at 6:00 p.m. with the experienced chef, Mr. Lee. Together with the twenty people, they cooked gimbap, tried Korean food, and then gave more food in beautiful boxes for those who attended the class to take away. The next event was held at 19:30 in the Zeus room of the same hotel for 60 people who came by invitation.
Before the evening started, we listened to K-pop songs and had the opportunity to try on a hanbok from the three options available. The wife of the Korean ambassador was responsible for this event and helped everyone who wanted to try a hanbok. This part of the event attracted many people who rushed to try on a hanbok. The red royal hanbok attracted much attention, but I chose another one in the colors I liked best.
I also took a picture with a hanbok next to the banner advertising the World Expo 2030, where Korea has a booth at the 2023 Thessaloniki International Expo, currently held in our city from September 9th to September 17th.
The K-Wave Night was opened by the Korean ambassador, Lee Jung Il, with a short and informative opening speech, and then we had some quizzes about K-pop, Korean history, and culture. The winners who found the correct answer won a gift, which was Korean food. I took a picture of the winners with their prizes in puzzles that asked how many consonants are in the Korean alphabet, which Korean historical figure does not appear on Korean won, which traditional clothing is not Korean, and other such questions.
The evening continued with random play, where listening to some K-pop hits, someone from the audience would come to dance according to the K-pop choreography. This moment scared enough of the audience that we were looking for someone tall to hide behind, but some brave people danced well. My favorite choreography and moment was when I heard 'Rover' by Kai.
It was the turn of the K-pop dance group SPIRITS, who represented Greece 3 times in the K-pop World Festival competition and danced to well-known hits from K-pop. At the same time, they showed us a choreography for us to participate in, too.
We could enjoy our drink, choosing from two Koreans, and I chose the one with a lychee. But there was also water and other refreshments. At the end of the evening, we filled out a questionnaire, and we all got a gift. Soap in the shape of the Korean hanbok, which we all loved. It came in different colors, but I chose the pink - purple.
The Korean ambassador, Lee Jung Il, and his wife were polite and smiling. So, I found the opportunity to promote my books and at the same time take a photo. I approached the chef and some Korean embassy officials, who agreed to hold my books.
